Band Biography

The Diamonds take pride in hand selecting the very best in rock’n’roll music from the 50s, the 60s, and even beyond. Our selection process is simple: Is it a great song? Will people enjoy it? Can we perform it well? If it ticks all the boxes, then to us, it has DIAMONDS potential.

Who are we? We’re a rag-tag group of misfits who have been performing together in various ensembles for 20 years, and every one of us lives in or around the Harrogate area. Indeed, the very first iteration of ‘The Diamonds’ was put together back in the 90s with little more than passion and a love for the music we play – very much ‘rough Diamonds’ back then.

As time has gone on, we have learned together and worked together to become who we are today – a 5 piece band, 3-part-harmony all live Rock & Roll Band who just love to recreate that authentic, nostalgic sound of the 50’s and 60’s – but we don’t stop there… The 60s ended at the end of 1969, we can’t escape that. But, rock’n’roll lives on. And as such, The Diamonds continue to bring entertainment across the region.

As well as classic Beatles songs, we cover many greats from the era including Elvis, The Hollies, Cliff Richard, The Monkees & The Shadows to name a few. We’re also rare in that we love to also “imitate the imitators” – back in the 70s, The Rutles came to fame as a Beatles parody band – but their songs stand in their own right, and it’s our pleasure to bring these to the public eye.

Our former Lead Guitarist Brian (who has sadly since passed away) had very high musical connections; hailing from Liverpool, he was a friend of the Beatles, as well as being a member of other 60s ‘household names’ such as Joe Brown and the Bruvvers, and Marty Wilde and the Wildcats. Brian’s knowledge of at least 500 chords and about 10 alternative fingerings / placements for each left us awestruck, and his knowledge and influence remains with us to this day.
